The Firebrand Fire Poker was designed and developed by Ed Cruikshank, a furniture designer based in the resort town of Queenstown, New Zealand.
Ed’s inspiration for the Firebrand is based on an old fire poker design whereby you could blow through the hollow tube which enabled the fire poker to double as a fire blower. The design was perfected over numerous prototypes and a period of 3 years.
Ed trained in the UK in industrial design and traditional cabinet-making before joining London-based David Linley in 1991.
Ed first travelled to New Zealand in 1996 to design the interior of a private yacht. He fell in love with New Zealand’s landscape and people and returned in 2002 to make Queenstown his home, setting up Cruikshank Furniture in 2003.
Ed drew on his contacts from his work designing custom furniture for super-yacht’s where high quality design, construction and materials is required.
Ed and the team work out of their Cruikshank Furniture retail premises in the historic mining town of Arrowtown.
